Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Muay Thai & Kickboxing at Hollywood Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Hollywood Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 3 Photo

Instructors:

  • Andy Donovan began his martial arts training with the sport of boxing before finding Hollywood Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 5 years ago. His interest in BJJ was peaked after training with local MMA fighters who would come into the boxing gym to learn striking and afterwards would train a bit of jiu jitsu for fun. He was immediately blown away at the efficiency of the martial art and has since been training almost everyday in his quest to master the art, something that he acknowledges is nearly impossible to do with the never ending learning process. He is currently the head instructor of the Beginner BJJ program and holds a brown belt in BJJ;
  • Bren Foster has over 25 years of training in the martial arts. His first full contact kickboxing match was at the age of 12. At the age of 14 Bren Began his Muay Thai Training in Australia attending a seminar under Ajarn Chai Sirisute. Bren Continued his Training in Australia with World Champion training partner Jason Edwards and Muay Thai Trainer Paul Grima. Bren has been undefeated in 12 full contact fights, and won an Australian kickboxing title in his late teens. He has trained in Korea, Hong Kong and also at the world famous Muay Thai training camp ‘Fairtex’ in Thailand. In 2007, Bren returned to the ring for the opportunity to fight in Thailand at the Fairtex stadium in Pattaya against a Pattaya Champion. Bren Has trained many fighters in Australia where he owns and operates his own martial arts school. His students fighting both Muay Thai and kickboxing have an impressive string of wins from State titles to National contenders;
  • Paul Schon, Paragon Brown Belt, started his martial arts career as a wrestler at La Jolla High School. He is a two time CIF Champion as well as a State and National qualifier. Paul continued his wrestling career in college after getting recruited by the Division 1 wrestling team UCDavis. Paul also had the opportunity to compete in Israel at the Maccabi games. After a successful wrestling career, Paul’s competitive nature wanted him to continue competing and started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Paul has an excellent BJJ tournament record and has captured gold medals in the following: 2008 American Nationals, 2009 World Championships, 2010 American Nationals, 2011 NoGi American Nationals, 2012 Gi and NoGi American Nationals, 2012 NoGI World Championships and 2nd place at the 2012 ADCC North American Championships;
  • Brian Herskowitz is a 4th Dan black belt in judo. He began competing at the age of 6 and at 8 years of age one the Texas state judo championship. Brian continued to win national and international competitions as a junior competitor, racking up an impressive 11 national titles from various organizations. As an adult he continued his winning ways including medals in the U.S. Collegiate championships, the U.S. Olympic festival, the U.S. Open championships, the world Maccabiah games where he was a dual silver medalist. After studying in Japan for a year, Brian returned to the U.S. and was a finalist in the 1980 Olympic trials. After a lengthy hiatus Brian returned to competition and has won the U.S. Masters 2004-2007, 2009 and 2012, and World Masters 2005 and 2009. Brian started training in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. As a blue belt he has won the Pan American championships in the senior division, and taken a silver in the World Championships. He also holds a first degree black belt in Sorenji Kenpo.

Fitness at Hollywood Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Hollywood Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 3 Photo

The Animal Farm is the name we’ve given to the fitness program at HBJJ. It originates with the concept that all athletics originate and grow out of proper physical fitness. Our primary goal is what we call “sustainable fitness”, which has a two-part definition. First, everyone has physical goals that they want to achieve, and we will help you achieve them and help you stay there. Secondly, we train in a manner that will prevent injury and therefore give you the ability to stay in training, helping you achieve and sustain your fitness objectives.
