We were founded in 1986 when there were virtually no activities for youth in Lower Manhattan.
We started providing services to a small but growing Lower Manhattan Community. Renowned as the financial center of the world, Lower Manhattan was rarely celebrated as the vital community of families and children of all ages that it is. Moreover, the well-being of our families is vital to the well-being of Lower Manhattan; to the office towers, large corporations, hundreds of small businesses, increasing numbers of cultural attractions and, by extension, to our city and nation.
In 2008 we opened the Downtown Community Center to much acclaim. Most recently we have spread our wings to include After-School middle school programs throughout Manhattan.
Our Center is our home base, housing our Aquatics programs and our regulation 25-yard swimming pool, our Art and Ceramics studios, Culinary Center, Dance and Fitness Studio, activity rooms, classrooms, Great Hall, administrative offices and more.
Manhattan Youth offers nearly 500 activities and classes each week in a variety of facilities throughout Lower Manhattan.

Our full 25-yard, 4-lane pool is kept at a warm 86-88 degrees, creating the perfect atmosphere for our swimming lessons and Family Swim. Our locker rooms offer individual private changing stalls.
ur Downtown Basketball League offers programs for boys in 2nd-7th grade and girls in 2nd-7th grade. The Downtown Basketball League is run in two phases: Pre-season and Regular Season.
During pre-season, youth are evaluated based on their skill set and participate in many scrimmages to help enhance their abilities on the court. In January, our regular season begins. Each participant will be placed on a team which will play against other teams once a week on their team league night. Shirts are distributed in January with team assignments. League Games run from January through March on weeknights based on age group.
In addition to our league play, we also offer clinics, which help develop a players basketball skills. Clinics are offered for boys in 1st-5th grade and girls in 1st-5th grade. Clinics take place on the weekend.
