Everyone who practices with the Venice Aikido Club is required to be a member of the Venice Japanese Community Center (VJCC). The VJCC allows us the space and time for classes. Membership in the VJCC also allows members access to the other organizations and classes given at the community center.
Each club member is expected to participate in VJCC activities such as helping on Bingo nights, twice yearly cleanups, the Aikido Club booth during the annual summer festival, VJCC newsletter stapling night, and other tasks as needed. These tasks are not time intensive, and reflect the club’s commitment to serving the community, as well as demonstrating courtesy and respect. Task gatherings are also an opportunity to enjoy some of the VJCC’s culture and activities.

Beginners learn a condensed and simplified set of movements integral to aikido while studying the aspects of attack that create the "aiki resolution".
Intermediate and advanced students then learn and practice how to support and protect the attacker as his intention brings him to the ground.
Our advanced practice is always jiuwaza practice, that is, a technique is never prescribed. In the role of uke, our students cultivate the ability to initiate and maintain authentic attacking intention so as to create a more realistic response to nage's actions, and therefore a more realistic representation of the effectiveness of those actions in creating a transformative experience.
Style — Ki-based.
