The dojo instructors continue to train under Yoshimitsu Yamada Sensei, 8th dan — a direct disciple of Morihei Ueshiba (Aikido’s founder), and the United States Aikido Federation’s master instructors (Shihan).

The chief instructor is Kazuho Nishida — he is a certified Aikido instructor (Shidoin) through the USAF and Aikikai Foundation in Japan. He holds a 6th degree black belt and is a certified instructor in Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido, collectively studying both arts for the last 40 year.

Adult Programs:

  • Introduction to Climbing Movement — This class will equip you with tools to climber smarter. Methods for climbing more efficiently will be discussed and practiced, with emphasis on: Body positioning relative to the wall, Breath-work, Precision in movement, Weight-shifting, Fluid climbing, Resting methods;
  • Introduction to Lead Climbing — The Stronghold's Introduction to Lead Climbing class will help you make the heady transition to the sharp end! Lead climbing involves a good deal more risk-management than toproping, and belaying the leader requires more skill. Students should be well-practiced in top-rope climbing and belaying and feel bomber with both before taking this class;
  • Introduction to Climbing Movement — This class will equip you with tools to climber smarter. Methods for climbing more efficiently will be discussed and practiced, with emphasis on: Body positioning relative to the wall, Breath-work, Precision in movement, Weight-shifting, Fluid climbing, Resting methods;
  • Personal Training — The Stronghold offers personal training tailored to the interests of the participant. Consider personal training if you would like to work with a climbing instructor one-on-one to refine your safety-related skills (in belaying, rappelling, cleaning a sport route, etc.) or get individualized pointers on improving your climbing technique;

Kids Programs:

  • Kids' Climb is a two-hour weekend program that allows children (age 5 to age 14) to explore climbing. Depending on the age of the childen involved, instruction regarding bouldering, toprope climbing and climbing movement will be provided, all in a positive and encouraging atmosphere. Parents are welcome to either stay and watch, or take a break and leave their children in the supervision of our staff;
  • Stronghold Climbing Team — Kids ages 5 - 17 are invited to join the Stronghold Youth Climbing Team for age-appropriate climbing instruction and practice with an experienced youth coach, Isaac Palatt. Participants work toward their own climbing goals in a supportive team environment, including preparing for participation in local and national climbing competitions;
  • Friday Nights Rocks — Kids, you can climb with our instructors on Friday nights and learn new knots, play games and get some exercise. Every Friday will feature different activities. Kids will leave tired and having climbed a bunch! No reservations required; just sign in around 6 PM. Snack and equipment provided.
