Takano Athletics is the leader in both training of athletes and education in the sport of weightlifting.

Weightlifting Classes:

  • Olympic Weightlifting — This class is design for intermediate to advance Olympic weightlifters;
  • Intro to Olympic WL — This class is perfect for any new athletes to the sport of weightlifting along with anyone that desires to learn the fundamentals correctly;
  • Barbell Strenght — This is our general Strength & Conditioning class with emphasis on the major lifts including squat, press, deadlift, snatch, and C&J. The purpose of this class is to develop overall strength and muscular development in all the lifts. Although you will learn and perform snatch and C&J, it is not the focus.

Competition Club — We are looking to field a number of different tiers of competitors. We plan on having male and female teams for youth, junior, and open levels.

The two greatest benefits of team membership are the training environment and the coaching. Team members will have a dedicated time on the five North platforms where they will train as a group. This will enable them to develop the training and winning attitude that is absolutely vital for withstanding the severity of training necessary for success in the sport. The top lifters in the world train in a group setting and the reason for this is the psychological momentum gained from the camaraderie of dedicated team mates.

The team will be trained and supervised by top coach Bob Takano who will individualize the training so that each athlete will develop their competitive skills to the utmost. No time will be wasted in figuring out the best path. The best path will be available from day 1.

In addition, team members will have open gym privileges so that missed workouts or multiple trainings can be undertaken at more convenient times.

Class Levels:

  • Level 1 — Our Beginner classes are powerful, learning experiences in which you will literally re-discover your body, how it works, and what it can do. Level 1 are designed to give you the time and support to understand the proper alignment of yoga asanas (postures) and breathing technique;
  • Level 1-2 — This classes build on the fundamental postures introduced in Level 1 through creative and challenging sequences. Level 1-2 classes are also ideal for learning and practicing the basics of more challenging postures like arm balances, inversions, safely and effectively;
  • Level 2 — Classes are designed to expand on your strength, stamina and flexibility as you master advanced postures like inversions, arm balances, and backbends, as well as demanding sequences. Also, expect teacher to refer to postures in Sanskrit more frequently;
  • Level 2-3 — Classes presume students are familiar with intermediate yoga postures (including inversions and backbends). In these classes you will use your knowledge of postures and breathing to practice exciting, physically demanding and challenging sequences and variations. The pace of these classes is faster, you will go deeper, and your teacher will help you achieve breakthroughs in your practice and your self-awareness. We recommend you have a year of solid yoga under your mat before you join 2-3 classes;
  • Level 3 — Not for the faint of heart, Level 3 classes are geared towards advanced students, teachers and teacher training graduates. Take this class only if you have an excellent degree of fitness. Are you regularly practicing the most difficult poses? Most students at this level already have many years of serious yoga study under their belts.

Pilates Classes:

  • Group Equipment Classes — Participation in a Group Equipment class requires a private Pilates session;
  • Mat Classes — Explore Pilates with our total conditioning mat classes that are included in YogaWorks memberships. Mat classes are a great introduction pilates;
  • Private Instruction — Explore pilates with one-on-one instruction from one of our trained pilates instructors.
