Instructors:

  • Sifu Alon Peterson — First he pursued the art of Shotokan Karate with several different local instructors, for about 10 years. In 1996 Sifu Alon moved to Malibu, CA for college, studying Computer Science at Pepperdine University. Here in California, Sifu Alon studied Tae Kwon Do as well as an eclectic system dubbed Sei Ei Do for 4 years until the year 2000, earning two black belts. Sifu Alon came to Traditional Wing Chun with a mission to learn how to become effective with close-in, hand-to-hand fighting. He trained diligently at the Los Angeles Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy under Master Joseph Sayah, teaching classes within 2 years, and reaching instructor level by the year 2005. When the time came for Master Sayah to return to his home in Australia, he passed on the Academy and its future to Sifu Alon;
  • Sifu Joel Douthit — came to Traditional Wing Chun in the year 2000 and trained diligently at the Los Angeles Traditional Wing Chun Kung Fu Academy under Master Joseph Sayah, the youngest Red Sash Master of Wing Chun in the world. Sifu Joel is a native of Boise, Idaho and has a college background in Computer Science. Sifu Joel was teaching classes by 2003, and became a certified instructor in 2005. When the time came for Master Sayah to return to his home in Australia, he passed on the Granada Hills Academy and its future to Sifu Joel;
  • Sihing Anthony Canales — has been a student of Martial Arts since 1976, hailing from California. With backrounds in shorin ryu karate, aikido, escrima, JKD, arnis, kali, silat, and yang family tai chi chuan, Anthony is a Certified Instructor with the National Tai Chi Chuan Association under the auspices of the late Dr. Marshall Ho'o. Anthony is currently a black sash-ranked student under the instruction of Sifu Alon Peterson, with a goal to obtain his gold sash in the future;
  • Sihing Naomi — is an Instructor in the kids training program as well as our wellness program director.

    Naomi is a native Californian who became interested in Martial Arts as a child. Her uncle Master Richard Moton was a prize winning fighter in the 70s and 80s and a Master Instructor in the Kempo style of Karate. She trained with her uncle as a child and up into her teen years, winning many tournaments in California and in Washington state. Naomi came to Wing Chun Kung Fu in 2004 for practical self-defense training . She has been training diligently under Sifu Alon Peterson. She currently holds a black sash and is working on her advanced training.

Private lessons are available monday — sunday by agreement.

Our Kung Fu classes consist of many areas of Chinese martial arts, ranging from self defense techniques to ancient breathing regimens and health exercises. The vast amounts of training we’ve preserved have been passed down from generation to generation by Monks, Priests, and Practitioners from the Shao-Lin temples, as well as other associated temples and teachers throughout China’s history.

We offer various Internal Styles, External Styles, Animal Styles, Buddhist Styles, Taoist Styles, Northern Fist, Southern Fist, Grappling, Iron Bone Training, Qigong, Chinese Yoga and Weapons.

The forms/training with the Shao-Lin “Wooden Dummy” are an important part of the Kung Fu skills and conditioning found at our Shao-Lin schools.

We now offer classes for children ages 6-12 with our Youth/Family Program. Parents and family members may also attend these classes. Students older than 12 are encouraged to join our adult classes.

Our training is traditional to the ancient practices of the Shaolin Temple of China. The exercises are non-competitive and focuses on the health and wellness of the body.

Shaolin Conditioning & Martial Arts — 80% of the physical training is Shaolin conditioning and drills. Once the body is conditioned well enough with adequate endurance, flexibility, agility, etc. The conditioning drills and movements will then be used to learn the advance forms and weapons routines. Advanced students of all ages have the option of training to become part of the Yanfan Shaolin Performance team.

All of the Garland Studio instructors are Certified in Romana's Pilates.

The Instructors are also assisted by Apprentices, who are there to add support. Each of the Instructors teaches at all levels from Beginner to Advanced and is experienced in dealing with rehabilitation, problems associated with aging, pregnancy and peak performance.

Classes:

  • The Powerhouse — Joseph Pilates created the concept of the "powerhouse," which is located four inches below the ribs and above the hips, and serves as the core or center of the body;
  • The Reformer — The main piece of exercise equipment used in Pilates is the reformer, a sort of sliding platform on springs. Much of the time, the client will be lying on their back to support the spine. The springs inform the muscle to initiate the movement from the correct place – like the Core or the Powerhouse. The springs of the reformer help the client find the correct body position more easily than they would on just a mat;
  • The Mat — When Pilates is done on the mat, the client is articulating their spine in both directions, so they can gain flexibility, strengthen their core and improve their daily life.
