  • Kru Natalie “Peaceful Warrior” Fuz (“Kru” is “teacher” in Thai) — Owner & Head Trainer;
  • Clifford Francois — He started Muay Thai in 2013 for fun and fitness at first but quickly fell in love with the sport. Cliff did his first smoker at Chok Sabai a year later and has fought actively since. In 2014, he became the gym manager and in 2015, he started his instructor certification and was certified after many hours of apprenticeship with Kru Natalie;
  • Wendy Lau — She is a physician (ER doc) who started training Muay Thai in medical school in 2007 for fitness and stress relief but ended up loving it so much that she started competing. She still trains with the fight team regularly and goes on the Chok Sabai Thailand trip every year. She is also a meditation and yoga teacher and currently teaches public yoga and meditation classes and a fight-team-only meditation class at Chok Sabai;

  • Lev Borukhov — Lev teaches Work & Play and is an assistant Muay Thai coach.

He started Movement Minded Physical Therapy with the mission to spend more time with his patients by providing full one-hour one-on-one sessions — without the time constraints of a big office practice.

Program:

  • 15 minute warm-up — 3- three minute rounds of jumping rope followed by a few squats, push-ups, AB work (sit-ups), and a light stretch;
  • training — we start off with shadow boxing, then we pair up. One person holds the focus mitts while the other works on various drills, for instance; we can start with a left jab, right hand, left hook. You want to do these drills for a few minutes while the other holds the pads. Then we alternate. In between rounds, we jump into some exercise routines, so we can keep the heart rate up and burn calories while learning proper techniques;
  • cool down — after were done with the workout, we take a few minutes to cool down with some light exercises and stretches.

Classes are 90 minutes long, and consist of warmup exercises, uchikomi (standing throwing drills), newaza uchikomi (groundfighting drills), timed newaza randori (groundfighting sparring with different partners), and timed tachiwaza randori (standing sparring with different partners).

Depending on your experience, you will be paired up with a senior-ranking member who will introduce you to the various components of the class and basic techniques. You will have personal attention for the first several months and you will set your own pace of learning with thoughtful and safe guidance to help you.

Bruce Lee named the cutting edge martial art training process he developed "Jeet Kune Do". This training process forms the foundation of what we teach at NY Martial Arts Academy.

The technical aspect of the classes includes elements from muay thai, boxing, jiujitsu and kickboxing. Elbows and knees are prevalent in muay thai but are also a part of Jeet Kune Do. Bruce Lee studied boxing and fencing when developing his art. We borrow certain elements from jiujitsu when addressing self defense situations on the ground.

Childrens Martial Arts classes are focused on teaching:
