Training

Our classes are two hours long. You are going to practice hard enough in the dojo, at least 8 hours a week. I will also assign some homework, conditioning and daily stretching.

We pay equal attention to Kihon (basic technique), Kata (forms) and Kumite (fighting) emphasizing real and meaningful applications.

As a bonus, every third Friday we are having parties at Chef Toni's Cooking School, where NYC Karate Dojo members are introduced to Japanese culinary techniques and essential tools.

Instructor

George Goshadze — over 20 years teaching experience. 5th degree black belt, SKIF — Shotokan Karate-Do International Federation.

Program:

  • 15 minute warm-up — 3- three minute rounds of jumping rope followed by a few squats, push-ups, AB work (sit-ups), and a light stretch;
  • training — we start off with shadow boxing, then we pair up. One person holds the focus mitts while the other works on various drills, for instance; we can start with a left jab, right hand, left hook. You want to do these drills for a few minutes while the other holds the pads. Then we alternate. In between rounds, we jump into some exercise routines, so we can keep the heart rate up and burn calories while learning proper techniques;
  • cool down — after were done with the workout, we take a few minutes to cool down with some light exercises and stretches.
