  • Kru Natalie “Peaceful Warrior” Fuz (“Kru” is “teacher” in Thai) — Owner & Head Trainer;
  • Clifford Francois — He started Muay Thai in 2013 for fun and fitness at first but quickly fell in love with the sport. Cliff did his first smoker at Chok Sabai a year later and has fought actively since. In 2014, he became the gym manager and in 2015, he started his instructor certification and was certified after many hours of apprenticeship with Kru Natalie;
  • Wendy Lau — She is a physician (ER doc) who started training Muay Thai in medical school in 2007 for fitness and stress relief but ended up loving it so much that she started competing. She still trains with the fight team regularly and goes on the Chok Sabai Thailand trip every year. She is also a meditation and yoga teacher and currently teaches public yoga and meditation classes and a fight-team-only meditation class at Chok Sabai;

  • Lev Borukhov — Lev teaches Work & Play and is an assistant Muay Thai coach.

He started Movement Minded Physical Therapy with the mission to spend more time with his patients by providing full one-hour one-on-one sessions — without the time constraints of a big office practice.

Program:

  • 15 minute warm-up — 3- three minute rounds of jumping rope followed by a few squats, push-ups, AB work (sit-ups), and a light stretch;
  • training — we start off with shadow boxing, then we pair up. One person holds the focus mitts while the other works on various drills, for instance; we can start with a left jab, right hand, left hook. You want to do these drills for a few minutes while the other holds the pads. Then we alternate. In between rounds, we jump into some exercise routines, so we can keep the heart rate up and burn calories while learning proper techniques;
  • cool down — after were done with the workout, we take a few minutes to cool down with some light exercises and stretches.

All of the classes at Unity Jiu Jitsu are all-levels. Pro Training sessions are practices for Blue Belt and above.

Our unique Introductory Program ensures that nobody enters regular class without understanding the basics of Jiu Jitsu, and being able to comfortably and competently participate. The Introduction Class consists of one 45-minute lesson required for anyone new to Jiu Jitsu.

Our Women’s Program is integrative, meaning we have taken measures to ensure that gender isn’t an issue for getting the best training possible. We want women in all our classes, and in any given class you will have the option of training with another female, should you want to.

Instructors:

  • Murilo Santana — A world-renowned Jiu Jitsu competitor and instructor, Murilo Santana has fought all over the world, winning some of his sport’s most prestigious titles. He has also taught Jiu Jitsu all over the world for more than 15 years, attaining a reputation for his knowledge and attention to detail. He is an Open Weight World Champion, and a coach of numerous other black belt World Champions and vice-Champion;
  • Ana Lowry — Ana is responsible for the Kids Programs, Women’s Program, and Introductory Program. She is a 2x Brown belt No Gi World Champion, as well as a No Gi Pan American Champion and Brazilian National Champion in both the Middleweight Division, and in the Open Weight Division. She trains and competes under Cicero Costha’s PSLPB Social Project, a project that brings underprivileged children into Jiu Jitsu;
  • Paulo & Joao Miyao are black belts in Jiu Jitsu under Cicero Costha. Considered prodigies of the sport since their teens, they virtually closed out all major competitions around the world in the lower ranks. What’s more, they won medals at the top tournaments in the absolute division (a division in which all weight classes are allowed to compete), including the World Championships in 2013. Their accomplishment is especially impressive for fighters of 64 kg (141 lbs);
  • Leandro Lo Pereira is one of the top Jiu Jitsu competitors in the lightweight division who often ventures successfully in the middle weight and open weight divisions. A black belt under Cicero Costha, Leandro Lo became an overnight sensation after he defeated Michael Langhi – April 2011 – on his way to the top spot of the World Pro Cup in Abu Dhabi. Since the win in the Middle East, Leandro Lo has cemented himself as one of the best ‘Pound for Pound’ in Jiu Jitsu with wins at the World Championships, the prestigious Copa Pódio and Pan American Championships;
  • Yago De Souza — He was born in Bahia, Brazil. He moved to Sao Paulo and began training at Cicero Costha’s as a teenager. A world-class brown belt, Yago is currently a multi-time European Champion, Brazilian National Champion, NY Open Champion, Boston Open absolute Champion, and now World Champion at middleweight;
  • Devhonte "Bones" Johnson — started his Jiu Jitsu career in December of 2011, training at Edson Carvalho BJJ where he remained training for three years. As a blue belt, he won the 2014 No Gi World Championships, double gold at the 2014 No Gi Pan Americans, and multiple IBJJF Open Championships;
  • Edwin “Junny” Ocasio — At an early age he was interested in wrestling and in high school Junny was on the East Stroudsburg North wrestling team. During a wrestling match, Junny tore his ACL and was no longer able to compete on the team. After completing surgery, and two years of physical therapy, he joined Ronin Athletics in pursuit of Mixed Martial Arts. In training for MMA, he found his true passion for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He made a name for himself in the local scene by winning and placing in competition, and then in 2014 he received his Purple Belt.
