Programs:

  • Kung Fu (Open level) — Shaolin Kung Fu classes. No prior experience necessary. The training introduces Shaolin Martial Arts to the student. Basic skills (Ji Ben Gong) include stretching, stances, kicks, hand movements, meditation and empty hand forms and sparring. All classes are between 60-90 minutes long;

Our training team comes from a varied background of elite athletic competition, training and coaching.

Instructors:

  • Ryan Hopkins — Ryan currently competes in Olympic weightlifting and is a member of USA Weightlifting, both as a competitor and as a certified Advanced Sports Performance Coach. Ryan recently returned from Russia where he studied at the Olympic Training Center in Chekhov under Olympic Gold Medalist Dmitry Berestov and World Champion Dmitry Klokov;
  • Albert Matheny — Albert holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Exercise Physiology and Food Science/Human Nutrition, a Master of Science degree in Human Performance and is licensed as a Registered Dietitian. Currently, Albert serves as the consulting dietitian for DB Track Club, a professional track and field training group lead by Rana Reider (USA Track and Field National Coach of the Year in 2011);
  • Ross Twanmoh — Ross graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio where he studied Sports Medicine. His experiences includes working with athletes in a rehabilitative setting, one-on-one training, teaching group fitness and crossfit classes, online consulting, and assisting at Strongfirst Girya certifications. Ross has his CSCS, SFG II, FRCms, USAW, CF L1, and Kinstretch Instructor license;
  • Stephen Affaticato — Certifications: NASM- CPT, Focus Personal training (Master Course graduate);
  • Beth Lewis — She competed as a swimmer, gymnast and martial artist. She graduated with a BFA in Dance Performance from The University of Georgia. In 2009, Beth was hired by the Pilobolus Dance Theater and toured the globe until 2012. Beth is a NASM-CPT and a 200 hour yoga teacher certified through YogaWorks. She has been to EXOS Phase 1 and 2 and is currently working on her CSCS;
  • Chelsey Wilkens — She began gymnastics at a young age and continued on to compete at an elite level around the world. After retiring, she joined the circus as an acrobat and began coaching gymnastics with a focus on special needs athletes and worked with the Special Olympics. Chelsey became a personal trainer in 2009 with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She became a certified yoga teacher in 2011. Chelsey has since studied under some of the top coaches and educators in the world, including Stoyan Deltchev, Charles Poliquin, James LaValle and Ido Portal;
  • Sarah Revening — She was awarded the Most Improved Female Weightlifter by the Metropolitan Weightlifting Committee in 2015, and she has been featured in AM New York, speaking to her experience in the sport and as a trainer. She specializes in Olympic Weightlifting, and holds certifications through the National Council of Strength and Fitness as well as USA Weightlifting;
  • Scott Mitsiell — B.S. Exercise Physiology, ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C), NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Functional Movement Systems lvl 2 Certified (FMS), Strongfirst Russian Kettlebell Certified (SFG), Triggerpoint Certified, Pre/Post Natal Certified, ViPR, Bulgarian Bags, Athletic Republic Certified;
  • Jason Li — He is a NSCA certified personal trainer, a USAW Advanced Sports Performance Coach, a Catalyst Athletics Weightlifting Coach, and a FRC mobility specialist;
  • Dariusz Stankiewich — He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Strong First and Functional Movement Screen instructor, and USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach.
  • Gary Kuang — He has a coaching certification from USA Weightlifting (USAW) and has experience working with a wide range of athletes;

ur Downtown Basketball League offers programs for boys in 2nd-7th grade and girls in 2nd-7th grade. The Downtown Basketball League is run in two phases: Pre-season and Regular Season.

During pre-season, youth are evaluated based on their skill set and participate in many scrimmages to help enhance their abilities on the court. In January, our regular season begins. Each participant will be placed on a team which will play against other teams once a week on their team league night. Shirts are distributed in January with team assignments. League Games run from January through March on weeknights based on age group.

In addition to our league play, we also offer clinics, which help develop a players basketball skills. Clinics are offered for boys in 1st-5th grade and girls in 1st-5th grade. Clinics take place on the weekend.
