In 1990, he began studying under Sifu Yee and throughout this time trained diligently. Joseph Demundo is one of the few close Disciples under Sifu Yee. Sifu Joseph Demundo prefers specializing in open hand fighting, street self-defense, Pole, Butterfly fighting technique, and the development of the internal power.

Class begins with a group warm-up and stretching, then moves to conditioning with kung fu basics: blocking, striking, kicking, jumping, turning, and stance work.

After warm-up, students learn forms (classical routines of Eagle Claw and northern kung fu techniques), self defense, and sparring. Weapons training plays a large role as well. Students get instruction in staff, short stick, sword, saber, three-section staff, spear, double-headed spear, kwan do (halberd), chain, hook swords, and daggers. Each weapon has a different purpose in self defense as well as in body conditioning.  Higher level students focus on fighting, advanced techniques, and gymnastics.

The Northern Eagle Claw system includes 25 fist forms, more than 25 weapon forms, over 25 partner (two-men or three-men) sets and the essence of the system, the 108 locking hand techniques.

Wing Chun Regular Classes:

  • Basic Training (performed by all) — This includes: warm up, Forms, Drills & San sik, and Chi Sao, etc.;
  • Individualized Training (based on sash level) — This includes: advanced techniques, Muk Yan Jong, Chi-Gerk, Blindfolded Chi Sao, Weapons.

Focus Classes:

  • Focus I: Forms —  at the Shan Wu Kung Fu School we recognize the major importance Forms play both as a lexicon and technical tool to teach the system, and as a medium to cultivate your Qi, internal power, and train your mind;
  • Focus II: Fundamentals — In this class students practice and analyze them in details as physical practice and intellectual understanding go hand in hand;
  • Focus III: Conditioning — This class focusses on developing endurance;
  • Focus IV: Chi Sao — This class is entirely dedicated to practicing all forms of Chi Sao. Students explore both soft and hard styles, sticking hands, Chi Gerk, Blindfolded Chi Sao, as well as combinations and counters.

Sifu Thierry Rémion — He has been involved in martial arts for over forty years, starting with Judo at the age of 11 and later Yang Style Tai Chi. He has studied and practiced Wing Chun for over twenty years under Master Yip “Terence” Chick Pui as well as Grandmaster Ip Chun both in New York and Hong Kong. He is a 3rd Generation Ip Man Wing Chun Practitioner, and a 2nd Generation Ip Chun Wing Chun disciple. For the past 17 years he had been an instructor at the Yip Pui Martial Arts Center (YPMAC), where in 2013 shortly before retiring Master Yip appointed him Daï Siheng (Senior Instructor), becoming the only one authorized by him to administer all tests and sign certificates at the Center. Sifu Rémion also studied Chin Na and Qi Gong with Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming and in 1998 become certified in the Chin Na System at the YMAA. Sifu Rémion is a permanent member of both the Wing Chun Ip Chun Academy (WCICA), and the Ving Tsun Athletic Association (VTAA).

Our training team comes from a varied background of elite athletic competition, training and coaching.

Instructors:

  • Ryan Hopkins — Ryan currently competes in Olympic weightlifting and is a member of USA Weightlifting, both as a competitor and as a certified Advanced Sports Performance Coach. Ryan recently returned from Russia where he studied at the Olympic Training Center in Chekhov under Olympic Gold Medalist Dmitry Berestov and World Champion Dmitry Klokov;
  • Albert Matheny — Albert holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Exercise Physiology and Food Science/Human Nutrition, a Master of Science degree in Human Performance and is licensed as a Registered Dietitian. Currently, Albert serves as the consulting dietitian for DB Track Club, a professional track and field training group lead by Rana Reider (USA Track and Field National Coach of the Year in 2011);
  • Ross Twanmoh — Ross graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio where he studied Sports Medicine. His experiences includes working with athletes in a rehabilitative setting, one-on-one training, teaching group fitness and crossfit classes, online consulting, and assisting at Strongfirst Girya certifications. Ross has his CSCS, SFG II, FRCms, USAW, CF L1, and Kinstretch Instructor license;
  • Stephen Affaticato — Certifications: NASM- CPT, Focus Personal training (Master Course graduate);
  • Beth Lewis — She competed as a swimmer, gymnast and martial artist. She graduated with a BFA in Dance Performance from The University of Georgia. In 2009, Beth was hired by the Pilobolus Dance Theater and toured the globe until 2012. Beth is a NASM-CPT and a 200 hour yoga teacher certified through YogaWorks. She has been to EXOS Phase 1 and 2 and is currently working on her CSCS;
  • Chelsey Wilkens — She began gymnastics at a young age and continued on to compete at an elite level around the world. After retiring, she joined the circus as an acrobat and began coaching gymnastics with a focus on special needs athletes and worked with the Special Olympics. Chelsey became a personal trainer in 2009 with the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She became a certified yoga teacher in 2011. Chelsey has since studied under some of the top coaches and educators in the world, including Stoyan Deltchev, Charles Poliquin, James LaValle and Ido Portal;
  • Sarah Revening — She was awarded the Most Improved Female Weightlifter by the Metropolitan Weightlifting Committee in 2015, and she has been featured in AM New York, speaking to her experience in the sport and as a trainer. She specializes in Olympic Weightlifting, and holds certifications through the National Council of Strength and Fitness as well as USA Weightlifting;
  • Scott Mitsiell — B.S. Exercise Physiology, ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C), NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Functional Movement Systems lvl 2 Certified (FMS), Strongfirst Russian Kettlebell Certified (SFG), Triggerpoint Certified, Pre/Post Natal Certified, ViPR, Bulgarian Bags, Athletic Republic Certified;

Dribbl is a New York-based instructional and recreational basketball program for kids ages 3-14.

Programs:

  • Pre-K & K — 50-minute sessions get kids comfortable on the court with a ball in their hands. PE-style games and pop music keep 'em moving and having a great time while they learn the basics;
  • 1st-3rd grades — 80-minute sessions progress to include more challenging drills, tactical plays, and half-court scrimmages;
  • 4th-7th grades — 80-minute sessions are segmented into 30 minutes of skills and drills, followed by “league” games. Balanced teams play scored, timed games with weekly standings and a play-off at the end of each season.

Youth league

BasketBall City is proud to be an Official Facility Partner of the Jr. NBA. The Jr. NBA is the official basketball participation program of the NBA, WNBA and NBA Development League. The Jr. NBA teaches the fundamentals and values of the game at the grassroots level to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for all.

Basketball City will be running a full schedule of Summer Basketball Camps at our 7-court facility located in downtown Manhattan. Camps include current and past NBA players and a collaboration with the National Basketball Players Association, and our ever popularBasketball City FUNdamentals Camp along with our NBA Draft/Skills Challenge Campwith future NBA talent.

Programs:

  • Private Training (1 on 1) — We tailor each Private 1-on-1 Training session based on your child’s position & skill set. Our basketball staff includes coaches who played all five positions at the various levels of college basketball, including the NBA, NBDL & various Overseas Leagues;
  • Group Training (2-3 players) — For group lessons, we will determine which coach best fits the needs of the group and outline a workout for all participants focusing on the necessary skills and fundamentals;
  • The Ultimate Shooters Workout — The program will provide you with the instruction and repetitions needed to perfect your shot, be it off the catch, the dribble or a screen;
  • Summer Camp — The second annual National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Summer Basketball Camp provides boys and girls ages 9-17. The camp will also feature NBPA educational components and appearances from NBA players throughout the week.

Soccer at Manhattan Kickers FC - The Yung Wing School Manhattan Kickers FC - The Yung Wing School 1 Photo 1 Video

Our goal as a coaching staff is to develop each player individually so that they can progress through the levels of the Manhattan Kickers Football Club (ages 4-12) and into MLS Academies or our affiliate club, Metropolitan Oval (ages 13-18). 

We train at least three times during the week from September through June using a curriculum that focuses intensely on individual ability and game intelligence.Practice sessions aim to develop individual technique including dribbling, passing, shooting, and tactics (decision-making).

On weekends, the players ages 5-8 will participate in small-sided games (4v4, 3v3, 2v2) in a low-pressure environment where the focus is on utilizing the skills that were honed in training. We are strictly focused on player development (both short- and long-term) and not concerned with competition until the players are ready. In the small-sided environment, the players will have more exposures to the ball as well as be an active participant in a match. Players ages 9-12 will play games against local competition.

MKFC's club teams (U6-U11) have a 10-month season running from late August through late June. For ages U4 and U5, the club offers a seasonal Little Kickers program as well as satellite programs in Queens and Brooklyn. During the summer, the club offers MKFC camps as well as affiliate camps. We also offer a trip for selected players to Barcelona and the Mediterranean International Cup.

Instructors:

  • Tom Hatton — He has 25 years playing experience, including representing Nottingham University one of the top college teams in the UK. Tom has extensive global soccer experience, playing in Korea, South Africa, Ireland, England in the Copa NYC, World Cup of New York. He has attended major global tournaments including the 2002 World Cup in Japan and 2004 Euro Cup in Portugal. After college he began working in Sports marketing, whilst coaching for the Nike, EA Games and MLS soccer programs, specializing in ages 6-9. Tom is the Director of the Little Kickers Soccer School for ages 3-5. He is also the MKFC 2007 head coach;
  • Devin Leahy — Kickers coaching staff. Devin went on to captain Trevor Day Schools high school team, where he coached 1st through 5th graders as part of the Physical Education Program. As a youth player, Devin competed in Europe, participating in the Gothia Cup in Sweden and the Harlem Cup in Holland, and trained with Vitoria FC in Brasil. Devin went on to play in college, leading the Hunter College Hawks to their first NCAA birth in over a decade while captaining the team as the center midfielder. Declining a semi-professional offer in Puerto Rico after college, Devin took the opportunity to work for Cipriani USA, in New York, Beverly Hills, and Istanbul;
  • Admir Nezaj — He moved to New York City from Kosovo at age 8 and two weeks later became an MKFC player. For the next five years, he played on the MKFC 96/97 team under Evan Rosenthal. Admir scored the goal on an overhead kick to win MKFC the State Championship, the first of any Manhattan team. After the Kickers, Admir went on to play for various NYC teams, including Met Oval, and he continues to play for the New York Athletic Club;
  • Sebastian Garces — He played on the 96/97 team under current MKFC President Evan Rosenthal, and then transitioned to the then-affiliate BW Gottschee in the US Development Academy, where he played through U18. He attended the University of Buffalo  before transferring back to college in NYC. As a player, Sebastian captained the MKFC 96/97 team who won numerous tournaments around the region;
  • Eduardo Cruz Rodriguez  — Kickers coaching staff. As a player, Eduardo had a professional career from 1986 to 1992 in Colombia (Deportivo Cali, Deportivo Pereira, Deportes Tolima, Sporting de Barranquilla) and Venezuela (Club Atletico Zamora). After his professional career, Eduardo began coaching at one of Colombia's top clubs, Deportivo Cali of the Categora Primera A (First Division) and afterwards at Categora Primera B (Second Division) club Academia FC. Later, Eduardo would be the head coach of the professional teams at Centauros FC and Universitario Popaya (Categora Primera B), and top-flight clubs Once Caldas (winner of the 2004 Copa Libertadores), and Deportes Quindio;
  • David Vilanova — He played for his hometown club CD Roquetenc from the age of 7 to 18 years-old. In 2011, he was offered a contract by CF Amposta (Third Division) and continued playing on other semi-professional teams in Catalonia. He earned a four-year Sports Teacher degree and UEFA B and UEFA A licenses. During his UEFA A course he worked at the FC Barcelona Technical School as a volunteer coach, where he learned the philosophy. After receiving his license, David began work with Global Premier Soccer (Bayern Munich Official Partner), as an FC Bayern Munich ID Program (USA) Head Coach. Currently, David is a full-time DV7 Soccer Academy staff coach in New York City;
  • Kashif Anthony's — He played club soccer for Soccer Expression FC in Brooklyn, where he learned the fundamentals of soccer while training three days a week.  Kashif graduated college in 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Health Science, and sought to pursue a career in the world of soccer. He coached there from 2015 to 2017, focusing on preparing athletes physically for practices and games, and his teams we won the Chelsea Piers Indoor League, Asphalt Green's Community Sports League and the NYCD Nike Summer League. Kashif also began working with MKFC 's Little Kickers.
