Sifu Chen teaches both Contemporary Wushu as well as Wan Lai Sheng's Natural Style (Zi Ran Men) Kung Fu and Traditional Shaolin Six Harmony (Liu He Men) Kung Fu.

Classes are available for all ages and skill levels and are taught in a relaxed environment.

Instructors:

  • Master Li Jian Long — He is a former member and coach of the Fujian Wushu Team. He was selected as the premier athlete from Fujian province in the 1976-77 All China Wushu Competitions. From 1977, he served as the as Director of the Fuzhou Physical Education Institute in addition to coaching the professional Wushu team from Fujian. In 1978, he became one of the first certified judges for the Chinese national sport of Wushu. Skilled in both open hand forms and weapons combat, he served as fight choreographer for the martial arts film, Journey Back to the Tiger's Lair (Wo Hu Xun Jie);
  • Master Chen Ying — He participated in local, regional and national competitions. In 1980, the Fujian Physical Education College accepted Chen Ying into their 4 year Wushu program. Sifu Chen was introduced by Coach Li to the famous Wushu master Wan Lai Sheng, lineage holder of the Zi Ran Men (Natural Style) and the Shaolin Liu He Men (Shaolin Six Harmony Style) fighting arts. Wan Lai Sheng accepted Chen Ying as his disciple and personally guided Chen Ying through 6 years of bitter training in Shaolin Liu He Men, Zi Ran Men, Luo Han Shen Da (Luo Han Spirit Fighting) and Shaolin Gen Qi Gong Fu (Shaolin Basic Kung Fu). Master Chen systematically mastered the open fist, weapons, and Dui Lian (two man) forms, as well as the rich meaning of Zi Ran Men, Nei Gong (Internal Practice), and the finer points of Luo Han Shen Da and fighting technique.

Adult programs:

  • Intro & Conditioning Program — Duration: 30 minute classes for 2-4 weeks. Curriculum: learn 5 core basic capoeira moves that condition you for the Level l program;

Instructors:

  • Veronica Samos has always loved martial arts and was actively practicing when a friend took her to one of the first Shaolin Wheel of Life shows in the late 1990s. It combined history, Chan (Zen) meditation, music and other elements of Chinese culture with a fantastic performance of martial arts. In 2004, Veronica started her training with Shifu Guolin and his brother Shifu Chao Hai in Manhattan. Ten years later, Veronica is still fascinated with the curriculum. Veronica is currently an instructor with Fit 4 Life Kids teaching martial arts in their enrichment programs to school children;
  • David Fung is a 35th generation Shaolin disciple, given the name Heng Tong. He has experience in contemporary and traditional Shaolin kung fu, qi gong, and tae kwon do. He holds black belts in taekwondo and has trained in several of the arts of Shaolin including san da (boxing), chin na (grappling), and iron body, specializing in Zen finger and diamond finger. David has trained under 34th generation disciples Master Guolin and Master Chao Hai of the Shaolin Temple. David is a member of the Shaolin Temple Overseas Headquarters Performance Team and a company member of the performing arts troupe DCNY. In addition to his martial arts training, David is certified in Shaolin History and Philosophy. David also teaches at the New York Chinese Cultural Center.

  • Self-defence — Hand, elbow, knee, and foot techniques are taught based on their effectiveness and practical application in street situations;
  • Kung Fu weapons are a true extension not only of our barehanded forms, but also of the students themselves. Each weapon is like a new teacher exploring another subject in the vast art of Kung Fu;
  • Black Belt Program — In this program you can aspire to achieve the rank of Hark Dai (Black Belt) within 3 to 5 years. Black Belt Program Students are strongly encouraged to take at least 2 private lessons per month with a senior instructor;
  • Master Program is a 6 to 9 year invitation-only program for black belt students. In the master program, you will strive for the correct approach to developing and practicing the art;
  • Young Tigers (age 4-10 years);
  • Teen Tigers (age 11-17 years);
  • Private — 30 minute and 1 hour sessions available. Sessions lead by Instructors under the direct supervision of Master Koh.

  • Sifu Doug Macdonald — 4th Degree Black Belt, 15 years experience in Kung Fu;
  • Sifu Yaniv Levy — He was born in Israel, holds a decade of experience under his belt. Starting at the young age of 14, Yaniv loved Kung Fu and practiced for a few years until his late twenties when he discovered Bo Law Kung Fu;
  • Sifu Ayodele Spencer —  3rd Degree Black Belt. He has been studying under Master Koh at Bo Law Kung Fu the past 17 years.

Class begins with a group warm-up and stretching, then moves to conditioning with kung fu basics: blocking, striking, kicking, jumping, turning, and stance work.

After warm-up, students learn forms (classical routines of Eagle Claw and northern kung fu techniques), self defense, and sparring. Weapons training plays a large role as well. Students get instruction in staff, short stick, sword, saber, three-section staff, spear, double-headed spear, kwan do (halberd), chain, hook swords, and daggers. Each weapon has a different purpose in self defense as well as in body conditioning.  Higher level students focus on fighting, advanced techniques, and gymnastics.

The Northern Eagle Claw system includes 25 fist forms, more than 25 weapon forms, over 25 partner (two-men or three-men) sets and the essence of the system, the 108 locking hand techniques.

Wing Chun Regular Classes:

  • Basic Training (performed by all) — This includes: warm up, Forms, Drills & San sik, and Chi Sao, etc.;
  • Individualized Training (based on sash level) — This includes: advanced techniques, Muk Yan Jong, Chi-Gerk, Blindfolded Chi Sao, Weapons.

Focus Classes:

  • Focus I: Forms —  at the Shan Wu Kung Fu School we recognize the major importance Forms play both as a lexicon and technical tool to teach the system, and as a medium to cultivate your Qi, internal power, and train your mind;
  • Focus II: Fundamentals — In this class students practice and analyze them in details as physical practice and intellectual understanding go hand in hand;
  • Focus III: Conditioning — This class focusses on developing endurance;
  • Focus IV: Chi Sao — This class is entirely dedicated to practicing all forms of Chi Sao. Students explore both soft and hard styles, sticking hands, Chi Gerk, Blindfolded Chi Sao, as well as combinations and counters.

Sifu Thierry Rémion — He has been involved in martial arts for over forty years, starting with Judo at the age of 11 and later Yang Style Tai Chi. He has studied and practiced Wing Chun for over twenty years under Master Yip “Terence” Chick Pui as well as Grandmaster Ip Chun both in New York and Hong Kong. He is a 3rd Generation Ip Man Wing Chun Practitioner, and a 2nd Generation Ip Chun Wing Chun disciple. For the past 17 years he had been an instructor at the Yip Pui Martial Arts Center (YPMAC), where in 2013 shortly before retiring Master Yip appointed him Daï Siheng (Senior Instructor), becoming the only one authorized by him to administer all tests and sign certificates at the Center. Sifu Rémion also studied Chin Na and Qi Gong with Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming and in 1998 become certified in the Chin Na System at the YMAA. Sifu Rémion is a permanent member of both the Wing Chun Ip Chun Academy (WCICA), and the Ving Tsun Athletic Association (VTAA).

Programs:

  • Kung Fu (Open level) — Shaolin Kung Fu classes. No prior experience necessary. The training introduces Shaolin Martial Arts to the student.
