Students studying Tai Chi at Moy Yee San Jong receive both group and individual instruction:

  • Beginning students learn the basic movements of Yang style Tai Chi, through repetitive practice of the movements and through various short forms. They also learn traditional standing meditation;

Kung Fu at Moy Yee San Jong Moy Yee San Jong 1 Photo

Sifu Henry Moy Yee (“Sifu”) began learning Ving Tsun from Grandmaster Moy Yat as a teenager in Hong Kong and continued to study under him until his death in 2001. Today Sifu teaches his students and disciples the Ving Tsun passed down to him by Moy Yat in the traditional Chinese style.

Classes:

  • Ving Tsun — The curriculum is comprised of three “empty hand” forms: Siu Nim Tau (“Little Idea”), Chum Kiu (“Searching Bridge”), and Biu Ji (“Shooting Fingers”). Advanced students learn Muk Yan Jong (“Wooden Dummy”), Luk Dim Bun Gwun (“Six and a Half Point Pole”) and Bat Jaam Dou (“Eight Cut Knives”). Students also participate in partner drills designed to help them master important techniques for self-defense. San Sau drills, or “Sticky Hands,” teach the practical applications of Ving Tsun by breaking down individual fighting techniques and drilling them with a partner;
  • The Kung Fu Kids Class introduces students (must be ages 8 and up) to the Shaolin Fist and Ving Tsun styles of Chinese Kung Fu;
  • Disciple Class — It was created for serious students who have made a commitment to Sifu and have been accepted as his disciples. It provides an opportunity for these students to deepen their knowledge of Kung Fu by learning many different styles and forms of martial arts, including weapons training.

Kung Fu & Tai Chi at Kung-Fu Kung-Fu 1 Photo

Kung-Fu classes are taught focusing on the over all development of the student. At the basic level great focus is put upon the fundamentals. In this class students will develop stances, punches, and kicks, breath control, and basic self defense techniques they can readily use in a short period of time. Students later learn to combine more advanced techniques together at will for fighting as well as various fighting styles.

Private and semi-private classes are offered, Thursday and Saturday (2 hr and 1 hr classes offered).

  • Core Curriculum — centers on four core disciplines: Eternal Spring Chi Kung™, the Tai Chi form, Nei Kung, and Meditation;
  • Tai Chi Chuan;
  • Nei Kung — is an internal system of Chi Kung, employing slow, deep breathing and requiring a relaxed physical stance and mental attitude;
  • Meditation;
  • Eternal Spring Chi Kung™ (Eternal Spring) — It is a healing exercise program and health maintenance system created by Grandmaster C. K. Chu. It includes aspects of Tai Chi, Nei Kung, and meditation.

Instructors:

  • Benjamin Ho — He began his education and practice of Chu Tai Chi in July of 2001. Tai Chi Chuan is the only martial arts Benjamin has ever studied. His favorite memory at the school was when he was asked by the late Grandmaster C.K. Chu to begin Apprenticeship Teaching in March of 2004;
  • Alex Kamlet — He had the privilege of learning Tai Chi and Nei Kung with Master C.K Chu since July, 1988. From 1996 to 1998 he was an assistant teacher. In 1998 Alex Kamlet started teaching classes independently. In April 2004 Alex received a Letter of Certification signed by the Master C.K Chu, to teach the disciplines of Tai Chi Chuan, Nei Kung, and Eternal Spring Chi Kung;
  • Grace Kim — She has been a student at CK Chu Tai Chi since 2005. Over the last 9 years, she has cultivated her internal martial arts training with a foundation built on tai chi, nei kung, and meditation. She is an occupational therapist at Weill Cornell Medical Center in the stroke rehabilitation research program and is currently a PhD candidate in the Occupational Therapy department at New York University;
  • Valerie LoGuidice — Started as a student in 2008. Was introduced to the school through the wonderful free classes offered at Bryant Park. After assisting at the park and the morning classes at the studio, she received certification as an Eternal Spring Instructor in 2013. She also received certification as a Medical Qigong Practitioner in 2013;
  • Steve Miller — He has been studying Tai Chi since 1987, and began assisting Master Chu in 1994. In 2011, He retired from a 30+ year career in Telecommunications, and currently spend a majority of my time teaching and practicing Tai Chi.

  • Kru Natalie “Peaceful Warrior” Fuz (“Kru” is “teacher” in Thai) — Owner & Head Trainer;
  • Clifford Francois — He started Muay Thai in 2013 for fun and fitness at first but quickly fell in love with the sport. Cliff did his first smoker at Chok Sabai a year later and has fought actively since. In 2014, he became the gym manager and in 2015, he started his instructor certification and was certified after many hours of apprenticeship with Kru Natalie;
  • Wendy Lau — She is a physician (ER doc) who started training Muay Thai in medical school in 2007 for fitness and stress relief but ended up loving it so much that she started competing. She still trains with the fight team regularly and goes on the Chok Sabai Thailand trip every year. She is also a meditation and yoga teacher and currently teaches public yoga and meditation classes and a fight-team-only meditation class at Chok Sabai;

  • Lev Borukhov — Lev teaches Work & Play and is an assistant Muay Thai coach.

Program:

  • 15 minute warm-up — 3- three minute rounds of jumping rope followed by a few squats, push-ups, AB work (sit-ups), and a light stretch;
  • training — we start off with shadow boxing, then we pair up. One person holds the focus mitts while the other works on various drills, for instance; we can start with a left jab, right hand, left hook. You want to do these drills for a few minutes while the other holds the pads. Then we alternate. In between rounds, we jump into some exercise routines, so we can keep the heart rate up and burn calories while learning proper techniques;
  • cool down — after were done with the workout, we take a few minutes to cool down with some light exercises and stretches.
