Programs:

  • Adults — Most of the classes are conducted in a group format. For advanced studies, classes are taught in a semi-private structure. All students will learn in a group setting, as well as on an individual basis. Students are also expected to practice on their own;
  • Teenagers — In our special program for ages 13-16, teenagers train with Master Miguel Hernandez.

Classes:

  • Kung Fu Workout — Beginners to advanced students will learn physical, technical as well as historical and philosophical aspects;
  • Kung Fu Forms — Traditionally, the essence of kung fu was distilled into "kuen" or forms. These pre-arranged sets of techniques were assembled by the ancient masters to impart the broad knowledge that had been amassed over the centuries;
  • Kung Fu Weaponry — The classical weapons of the ancient warriors of China are a big part in the training of a traditional kung fu student. The range of weapons is enormous: from the long to short, and from the hard to the soft;
  • Two-Man Practice — This special class is an introduction to the practice of partner drills. These drills will be used to train the student’s understanding of fundamental strikes, blocks and kicking techniques against an opponent.

Kung Fu at Moy Yee San Jong Moy Yee San Jong 1 Photo

Sifu Henry Moy Yee (“Sifu”) began learning Ving Tsun from Grandmaster Moy Yat as a teenager in Hong Kong and continued to study under him until his death in 2001. Today Sifu teaches his students and disciples the Ving Tsun passed down to him by Moy Yat in the traditional Chinese style.

Classes:

  • Ving Tsun — The curriculum is comprised of three “empty hand” forms: Siu Nim Tau (“Little Idea”), Chum Kiu (“Searching Bridge”), and Biu Ji (“Shooting Fingers”). Advanced students learn Muk Yan Jong (“Wooden Dummy”), Luk Dim Bun Gwun (“Six and a Half Point Pole”) and Bat Jaam Dou (“Eight Cut Knives”). Students also participate in partner drills designed to help them master important techniques for self-defense. San Sau drills, or “Sticky Hands,” teach the practical applications of Ving Tsun by breaking down individual fighting techniques and drilling them with a partner;
  • The Kung Fu Kids Class introduces students (must be ages 8 and up) to the Shaolin Fist and Ving Tsun styles of Chinese Kung Fu;
  • Disciple Class — It was created for serious students who have made a commitment to Sifu and have been accepted as his disciples. It provides an opportunity for these students to deepen their knowledge of Kung Fu by learning many different styles and forms of martial arts, including weapons training.

Kung Fu at Nabi Su Tai Chi, Kung Fu & Wellness Nabi Su Tai Chi, Kung Fu & Wellness 1 Photo

Master Carolyn Campora and her black belts will personally guide you. In your free class, you will learn the opening the Nabi Su Kung Fu form, basic kicks, punches, exercises and stepping. You will participate in the group class, get private instruction, and watch more advanced students do their forms.

Our Children's Kung Fu Classes are small, semi-private, and the children are taught the same Kung Fu style that is taught in our adult classes.

Kung Fu Weapons

The first weapons that the student meets at Nabi Su are the escrima sticks. We practice these as a practical, light, short – 26 to 28 inches – and relatively simple self-defense tool.

It is not until brown belt level that the next weapon is introduced. The Bo is a 6-foot staff taught via the form called Dragon's Tail, a form that is complex and beautiful.

For those who are studying Tai Chi, which includes all who have achieved the level of Black Belt in Kung Fu, weapons begin with the saber, followed by the double-edged sword, then the fan. Spear forms from Hung Gar and Cho Li Fut, Butterfly Knives, Lightning Saber and the 2 person Saber/Spear form are taught to advanced practitioners

The most advanced students practice Jodo, the art of wooden staff, jo, against long and short swords, a tradition comprising 64 forms dating back to the Samurai and attributed to Myamoto Mushashi.

Wing Chun Kung Fu at Michael Militano Wing Chun Kung Fu Michael Militano Wing Chun Kung Fu 1 Photo

Master Instructor — Michael Militano. From an early age, he demonstrated natural talent as an athlete and fighter, but after years of studying boxing, wrestling, some Karate. Jiu Jitsu, gymnastics, and various weaponry, he found his niche in Wing Chun (under the sole instruction of Grandmaster Jason Lau). After only three years of study, Grandmaster Jason Lau appointed Michael Militano to teach, and soon thereafter, to take over the school when Grandmaster Lau left New York.

Instructors as well as many students from other martial arts schools have turned to Sifu Militano's expertise to enhance their knowledge of fighting - and for good reason. His competitive students (of all levels) have won numerous tournaments when competing against advanced level martial artists. Sifu Militano has taught Wing Chun to law enforcement instructors, military personnel, children, the blind and visually impaired, and he was invited to train the U.S. National Guard.

Kung Fu at Wu Mei Gongfu Wu Mei Gongfu

Sifu David Berman teaches Wu Mei Gongfu in the traditional manner: training is ongoing, with no sense of “semester”, and with new students entering the class at any time; all students, beginners through advanced players, study together, and instruction is given on an individual basis, depending on the needs of each student; there are no colored belts, no testing, no ranking, and students are encouraged to view their gongfu not as an accomplishment.

Eagle Claw Kung Fu at Shum's Ying Jow Pai International Headquarters Shum's Ying Jow Pai International Headquarters 1 Photo

Class begins with a group warm-up and stretching, then moves to conditioning with kung fu basics: blocking, striking, kicking, jumping, turning, and stance work.

After warm-up, students learn forms (classical routines of Eagle Claw and northern kung fu techniques), self defense, and sparring. Weapons training plays a large role as well. Students get instruction in staff, short stick, sword, saber, three-section staff, spear, double-headed spear, kwan do (halberd), chain, hook swords, and daggers. Each weapon has a different purpose in self defense as well as in body conditioning.  Higher level students focus on fighting, advanced techniques, and gymnastics.

The Northern Eagle Claw system includes 25 fist forms, more than 25 weapon forms, over 25 partner (two-men or three-men) sets and the essence of the system, the 108 locking hand techniques.
